Alexandra Alves began the oil painting and watercolours art painting when she was 13 years old, at the Circle of Plastic Arts of Coimbra (CAPC), where she had classes with Alberto Carneiro, Ernesto of Sousa and Túlia Saldanha. Having always been a self-made person regarding her experience in painting, only when she was 19 years old she discovered the glazed tiles ("azulejo") painting art, which fascinated and influenced her in a decisive way. In spite of having a professional career in the area of Human Resources, she always maintained the bond with ceramics painting. Due to the great fascination she felt for the "azulejo" painting, and also to the success she had, Alexandra Alves decided to dedicate exclusively to this passion of hers. She brought to life the Atelier Artémis – Applied azulejos, which already has about 5 years of existence. This Atelier is having a very positive success with its products, both in Portugal and abroad. Today, it centres on the production of glazed tiles panels, entirely painted by hand and in several varied dimensions, and on the production of other types of glazed tiles painting, to be used for the decoration of interiors. Most of the painters that work in the Artémis Atelier, monitored by Alexandra Alves, are young people with a hearing deficiency, that due to this human resources policy, have the chance to obtain a future-oriented artistic formation in this activity. Alexandra Alves possesses a vast portfolio and she has done many exhibitions throughout the whole country. This artist is influenced by many different artistic domains: starting with the most traditional Portuguese Figurative style, to the new tendencies of the Glazed tiles painting art, such as the ones drawn by Maria Keil or the remarkable cubist and abstract paintings of Amadeo de Souza Cardoso. |
